Indulge in these fluffy Czech Buchty, sweet rolls filled with luscious fruit jam and brushed with buttery goodness. Perfect for a cozy weekend brunch or a delightful afternoon treat with coffee.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup fruit jam
- 1 egg Ingredient 8
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter.
- 3
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of jam in the center.
- 6
Pinch the dough closed around the jam, forming a bun, and place seam-side down on a greased baking sheet.
- 7
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg.
- 8
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool slightly before serving.
