Indulge in the warm, sweet flavors of Bofrot, a delightful West African doughnut-like treat. Perfect for a cozy weekend brunch or a festive gathering, these fluffy bites are infused with nutmeg and vanilla for a comforting experience.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In another bowl, mix together the sifted flour, sugar, nutmeg, and salt.
- 3
Once the yeast is foamy, add it to the dry ingredients along with the vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- 4
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- 6
Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the dough balls until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes.
- 7
Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 8
Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or eaten plain.
