Experience the heart of South African cuisine with this fragrant bobotie, a comforting blend of spiced minced meat, sweet raisins, and a creamy egg topping. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg mince
- 2 finely chopped onions
- 1 slice white bread
- 250 ml milk
- 2 eggs
- 10 ml curry powder
- 10 ml sugar
- 10 ml salt
- pinch pepper
- 1 juice of 1 lemon
- 125 ml stoned raisins
- 4 lemon slices or bay leaves

1. Cook mince.

2. Soak the bread in milk, squeeze dry, and mash.

3. Brown onions.

4. Mix all ingredients except egg and leaves.

5. Bake for 1.5 hrs at 100°C (raw meat) or 1/2 hr if meat cooked.

6. Beat remaining egg & the remainder of the milk & pour over the meat 1/4 of an hour before serving; return to oven & bake until light brown.
Notes
Serve with lemon or bay leaves.
