Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Birnbrot, a delightful German pear bread infused with cinnamon and butter. Perfect for a cozy afternoon snack or a sweet breakfast treat, this recipe will fill your home with inviting aromas.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 250 ml milk
- 75 g butter
- 50 g sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 500 g pears
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter.
- 3
Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle. Evenly spread the diced pears and sprinkle cinnamon on top.
- 6
Roll the dough tightly from the long side. Pinch the ends to seal and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
- 8
Bake the Birnbrot for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown. Let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
