Experience the warmth of Bengali cuisine with Bhapa Pitha, a delightful steamed rice cake filled with sweet coconut and jaggery. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy afternoon treat, this dish is a true celebration of flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup jaggery
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • -17 °C for wrapping

Method

  1. 1

In a mixing bowl, combine rice flour, salt, and cardamom powder.

  2. 2

Gradually add water to the rice flour mixture until a smooth dough forms.

  3. 3

In another bowl, mix grated coconut and jaggery until well combined.

  4. 4

Take a small portion of the dough and flatten it in your palm, then place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery mixture in the center.

  5. 5

Fold the dough over to cover the filling and shape it into a cylindrical or oval form.

  6. 6

Wrap each pitha in a piece of banana leaf and secure it tightly. If using parchment paper, fold it securely.

  7. 7

Steam the wrapped pithas in a steamer for about 20 minutes until cooked through.

  8. 8

Unwrap and serve warm. Enjoy your Bhapa Pitha!
