Indulge in the rich, layered delight of Baumkuchen, a traditional German cake with a unique texture and a hint of vanilla, perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat with coffee.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g unsalted butter
- 250 g granulated sugar
- 5 large eggs
- 200 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 200 g dark chocolate
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and prepare a baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
- 2
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- 3
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- 4
Sift together the flour and baking powder, then gradually fold it into the butter mixture until just combined.
- 5
Spread a thin layer of the batter in the baking pan and bake for about 5-7 minutes or until lightly golden on top.
- 6
Remove from the oven, add another layer of batter, and repeat the process, layering and baking until all the batter is used.
- 7
Once the cake is baked and cooled, melt the dark chocolate and pour it over the top of the cake, allowing it to set.
- 8
Slice the Baumkuchen into thin pieces and serve. Enjoy your treat!
