Indulge in the rich, sweet flavors of Barfi, a traditional Indian dessert made with milk powder, ghee, and aromatic cardamom. Perfect for festive celebrations or as a delightful treat to share with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup milk powder
- 1 cup condensed milk
- 1/4 cup ghee
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts
- a pinch saffron strands
Method
- 1
In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee over medium heat until melted.
- 2
Add the milk powder and sugar (if using) to the ghee, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
- 3
Pour in the condensed milk and mix well with the milk powder until it forms a smooth mixture.
- 4
Add the cardamom powder and saffron strands, and continue to cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture begins to leave the sides of the pan.
- 5
Once the mixture thickens, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly. Then, pour it into a greased plate or tray and spread it evenly.
- 6
Garnish with chopped nuts, pressing them lightly into the mixture.
- 7
Allow the barfi to set for at least 2 hours, then cut it into squares or diamond shapes.
- 8
Serve the barfi at room temperature or refrigerate for a firmer texture.
