Experience the delicate flavors of Vietnam with Banh Cuon, a savory rice roll filled with seasoned ground pork and wood ear mushrooms. Perfect for a light weeknight dinner or a delightful brunch with friends.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup tapioca flour
  • 1 cup ground pork
  • 1/4 cup wood ear mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • to taste none pepper

Method

  1. 1

In a bowl, mix rice flour, tapioca flour, and water until smooth to create the batter. Let it rest for 15 minutes.

  2. 2

In a pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat, then add ground pork and cook until browned. Add chopped wood ear mushrooms and fish sauce. Stir well and season with pepper. Cook for another 3-5 minutes.

  3. 3

Prepare a steaming pot with water. Lightly oil a flat dish or a steaming rack.

  4. 4

Pour a thin layer of the batter onto the prepared dish and steam for about 3-5 minutes until set. Repeat until all batter is used.

  5. 5

Once the sheets are ready, place a spoonful of the pork and mushroom filling on one edge of each steamed sheet. Roll tightly and place on a serving plate.

  6. 6

Serve with dipping sauce made of fish sauce, lime juice, and sugar, alongside fresh herbs like mint and cilantro.
