Indulge in the sweet and aromatic flavors of Balaleet, a traditional Emirati dish featuring vermicelli noodles infused with cardamom and cinnamon. Perfect for a festive breakfast or a cozy weekend brunch with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup vermicelli noodles
- 2 tbsp ghee or clarified butter
- 1 tsp cardamom pods
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
- 1/4 tsp salt
Method
- 1
In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to boil. Add the vermicelli noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
- 2
In a large skillet, heat the ghee over medium heat. Add the crushed cardamom pods and cinnamon powder, and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- 3
Add the cooked vermicelli to the skillet and stir well to coat with the ghee and spices.
- 4
Stir in the sugar, raisins, sliced almonds, and salt, mixing until the sugar is dissolved and everything is well combined.
- 5
Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is heated through and slightly caramelized.
- 6
Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving. The Balaleet can be served warm or at room temperature.
- 7
For an authentic touch, serve with a side of fried eggs on top if desired.
