Experience the heartwarming flavors of Bak Kut Teh, a fragrant Malaysian herbal pork rib soup infused with ginger and garlic. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a comforting weekend feast with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 800 grams pork ribs
  • 10 cups water
  • 5 slices ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons Bak Kut Teh spice mix
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 stalks fresh coriander

Method

  1. 1

In a large pot, bring the water to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

Add the pork ribs to the boiling water and blanch for about 5 minutes to remove impurities. Drain and set the ribs aside.

  3. 3

In the same pot, return the cleaned ribs and add the ginger, garlic, Bak Kut Teh spice mix, soy sauce, and white pepper.

  4. 4

Pour in enough water to cover the ribs and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours until the ribs are tender.

  5. 5

Taste the broth and adjust seasoning as necessary. You can add more soy sauce or pepper according to your preference.

  6. 6

Once the ribs are tender, serve the Bak Kut Teh hot, garnished with fresh coriander.

  7. 7

Enjoy with steamed rice and your choice of side dishes like fried dough sticks (you tiao).
