Craft the perfect French baguette at home, with a crisp crust and soft, airy interior. Ideal for a cozy dinner or as a base for your favorite sandwiches, this classic bread brings warmth to any meal.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g bread flour
- 325 ml water
- 10 g salt
- 2 g instant yeast
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and yeast. Mix well.
- 2
Add the room temperature water and salt to the flour mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until doubled in size.
- 5
Once risen, gently deflate the dough and divide it into two equal pieces. Shape each piece into a long baguette shape.
- 6
Place the shaped baguettes on a floured baking sheet. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 to 45 minutes.
- 7
Preheat the oven to 230°C (450°F) and place a baking tray filled with water at the bottom for steam.
- 8
Just before baking, make several diagonal slashes on the top of each baguette with a sharp knife. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
