Indulge in the sweet, rum-soaked delight of Babà, a classic Neapolitan dessert that’s fluffy and rich. Perfect for a festive gathering or a cozy evening treat, this cake will transport your taste buds to Italy.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 60 g unsalted butter
- 10 g active dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 100 ml rum
- 70 g powdered sugar
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and granulated sugar. Make a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture and eggs.
- 3
Mix until a smooth dough forms, then gradually add the melted butter and mix until well combined.
- 4
Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a babà mold and fill it with the risen dough. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- 6
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Soak the babà in rum for about 15 minutes, allowing it to absorb the liquid.
- 7
Dust with powdered sugar before serving and enjoy your delicious babà!
