Savor the smoky, sweet flavors of Ayam Bakar, an Indonesian grilled chicken dish marinated in garlic, ginger, and kecap manis. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a weekend barbecue with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons lime juice
Method
- 1
In a bowl, combine minced garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, turmeric powder, lime juice, and vegetable oil to create the marinade.
- 2
Add the chicken pieces to the marinade and mix well to ensure all pieces are coated. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight in the fridge.
- 3
Preheat your grill or barbecue to medium-high heat.
- 4
Place the marinated chicken on the grill and cook for about 20 minutes, turning occasionally until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
- 5
Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 75°C (165°F) for safe consumption.
- 6
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
- 7
Serve the Ayam Bakar with steamed rice and a side of fresh vegetables or sambal for a complete meal.
