Indulge in the warmth of Zimtsterne, a delightful German cinnamon star cookie made with ground almonds and a sweet icing. Perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy evenings with loved ones, these treats will fill your home with festive cheer.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams ground almonds
  • 200 grams powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 200 grams powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the ground almonds, powdered sugar, and cinnamon.

  3. 3

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites with lemon juice until soft peaks form.

  4. 4

Gently fold the egg whites into the almond mixture until well combined.

  5. 5

Roll out the dough on a lightly powdered sugar-dusted surface to about 1 cm thickness.

  6. 6

Cut out star shapes using a cookie cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

  7. 7

For the icing, mix the powdered sugar with water until smooth, then brush it over the stars.

  8. 8

Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool before serving.
