Experience the warm, comforting aroma of freshly baked Irish soda bread, made with simple ingredients like buttermilk and flour. Perfect for a cozy weekend brunch or as a hearty side to your favorite stew.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1.5 cups buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- 3
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together.
- 4
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly for about 1 minute. Shape the dough into a round loaf.
- 5
Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
- 6
Brush the top of the loaf with melted butter for a golden crust.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 8
Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
