Indulge in the warm, flaky layers of homemade paratha, a beloved Indian flatbread that pairs beautifully with your favorite curries or yogurt. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive brunch with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 tbsp ghee or butter
- 1 cup stuffing (optional)
Method
- 1
In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
- 2
Add oil and gradually add water to form a soft dough. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- 3
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 20 minutes.
- 4
Divide the dough into equal portions. If making stuffed parathas, flatten the dough ball and place a tablespoon of stuffing in the center. Fold and seal properly.
- 5
Roll out each portion into a flat disk, dusting with flour to prevent sticking.
- 6
Heat a tava or non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each paratha, applying ghee or butter on both sides until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or curry of your choice.
