Indulge in the delightful taste of Papanași, a traditional Romanian dessert made with creamy cow's cheese and a hint of vanilla, served warm with sour cream and fruit preserves. Perfect for a cozy weekend treat or a special gathering.

Ingredients

  • 250 g fresh cow's cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 200 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • pinch salt
  • to taste sour cream
  • to taste fruit preserves

Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, mix the fresh cow's cheese, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  2. 2

In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the cheese mixture, stirring until you have a soft dough.

  4. 4

Shape the dough into small balls and then flatten them slightly to form disks.

  5. 5

Heat a pot of oil over medium heat and fry the disks until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes each side.

  6. 6

Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

Serve warm with a dollop of sour cream and a spoonful of fruit preserves on top.
