Warm up with a hearty moose stew, brimming with tender moose meat, vibrant carrots, and earthy potatoes simmered in rich beef broth. Ideal for cozy weeknight dinners or gatherings with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds moose meat
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 medium carrots
  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 1 medium onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons flour

Method

  1. 1

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the moose meat and brown it on all sides.

  2. 2

Once the meat is browned, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is translucent.

  3. 3

Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 1 hour.

  4. 4

Add the sliced carrots, cubed potatoes, thyme, and black pepper. Stir well and continue simmering for another 1 to 1.5 hours or until the meat is tender.

  5. 5

If you prefer a thicker stew, mix the flour with a little water to create a slurry and stir it into the pot during the last 15 minutes of cooking.

  6. 6

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve hot with crusty bread.
