Indulge in the sweet, golden goodness of Luqaimat, traditional Middle Eastern dough balls drizzled with date syrup. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy dessert after dinner, these treats are a delightful bite of culture.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 cup ghee or vegetable oil
- 1 cup date syrup or honey
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and cardamom powder. Mix well.
- 2
Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, whisking until you have a smooth batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
- 3
Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the batter rise for about 30 minutes in a warm place, until it has doubled in size.
- 4
Heat ghee or vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. You need enough oil to submerge the dumplings.
- 5
Once the oil is hot, use a spoon or your hands to drop small amounts of batter into the oil, frying in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- 6
Remove the fried Luqaimat from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 7
Drizzle warm date syrup or honey over the Luqaimat and serve immediately while they are still warm.
