Experience the unique flavors of Jerusalem with these chewy, sesame-topped bagels. Perfect for a cozy brunch or a delightful snack, they bring a taste of tradition to your table.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
- 3
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Boil a large pot of water and add baking soda to it.
- 6
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each into a bagel. Boil each bagel for about 30 seconds on each side, then place on a baking sheet.
- 7
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of each bagel, then bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- 8
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite toppings!
