Indulge in the warm, sweet embrace of Halwa, a traditional Indian dessert made with semolina, ghee, and aromatic cardamom. Perfect for festive occasions or a cozy weeknight treat, it's a delightful way to satisfy your sweet cravings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (rava)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup ghee
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon raisins

Method

  1. 1

In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the ghee on medium heat.

  2. 2

Add the semolina and roast it, stirring continuously until it turns golden brown.

  3. 3

In a separate pot, bring water (or milk) to a boil and add sugar to dissolve.

  4. 4

Once the semolina is roasted, carefully pour the hot water and sugar mixture into the pan, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.

  5. 5

Add the cardamom powder, chopped nuts, and raisins, mixing well.

  6. 6

Cook on low heat until the mixture thickens and starts to pull away from the sides of the pan.

  7. 7

Remove from heat and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

  8. 8

Serve warm, garnished with additional nuts if desired.
