Savor the crispy delight of homemade Fish and Chips, featuring tender white fish enveloped in a light, bubbly batter, paired with golden fries. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun weekend treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces white fish fillets (such as cod or haddock)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sparkling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 medium potatoes
  • Salt to taste sea salt
  • Oil for frying vegetable oil

Method

  1. 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Soak in cold water for about 30 minutes, then drain and pat dry.

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually whisk in the sparkling water until the batter is smooth.

  3. 3

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

Fry the potatoes in batches until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, then sprinkle with sea salt.

  5. 5

Dredge the fish fillets in the remaining flour and dip them in the batter, allowing any excess to drip off.

  6. 6

Carefully place the battered fish in the hot oil and fry for about 4-6 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

Serve the fish and chips hot with extra salt and your favorite dipping sauces, such as malt vinegar or tartar sauce.
