Indulge in the classic French comfort of a Croque Monsieur, featuring layers of savory ham and melted Gruyère, all enveloped in buttery toasted bread. Perfect for a cozy brunch or a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 4 slices white bread
  • 4 slices ham
  • 4 slices Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese
  • 1 pinch nutmeg

Method

    Preheat a skillet or frying pan over medium heat.

    Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.

    Assemble the sandwich by layering ham and Gruyère cheese between two slices of bread, buttered sides out.
