Indulge in the crispy perfection of Chicken Schnitzel, a classic German dish where tender chicken is breaded and fried to golden bliss. Serve it with zesty lemon wedges for a delightful weeknight dinner that feels special.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 4 pieces chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- Lemon wedges for serving
Method
- 1
Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to about 1/2 inch thickness using a meat mallet.
- 2
Season both sides of the chicken with salt and black pepper.
- 3
Set up a breading station: Place flour in one dish, beaten eggs in a second dish, and breadcrumbs in a third dish.
- 4
Dip each chicken breast first in flour, then in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
- 5
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken, cooking 2-3 pieces at a time to avoid overcrowding.
- 6
Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 7
Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the schnitzel.
