Agedashi Tofu is a delightful Japanese dish featuring crispy, golden-fried tofu served in a savory dashi broth, topped with green onions and grated daikon. Enjoy this comforting dish as a light appetizer or a satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 400 g firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup dashi broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 tbsp green onions
  • 1 tbsp grated daikon radish

Method

    Drain the tofu and wrap it in paper towels to remove excess moisture. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

    Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and coat each piece evenly with cornstarch.

    Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).

    Carefully add the tofu cubes to the hot oil in batches, frying until they are golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.

    Remove the fried tofu and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

    In a saucepan, combine the dashi broth, soy sauce, and mirin. Heat gently until warmed through.

    Serve the fried tofu in bowls, pouring the warm dashi sauce over them. Garnish with green onions and grated daikon radish if desired.
