Indulge in the vibrant flavors of Middle Eastern shawarma, featuring tender marinated chicken thighs, creamy tahini, and fresh veggies wrapped in warm pita. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a casual gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams boneless chicken thighs
- 4 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 pitas pita bread
- 1 cup fresh vegetables
- 1/2 cup Tahini sauce
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine yogurt, olive oil, cumin, coriander, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 2
Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight.
- 3
Preheat your grill or oven to medium-high heat. If using an oven, place a baking sheet on the lower rack to catch drippings.
- 4
Grill the marinated chicken for about 15-20 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly charred. Alternatively, bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes.
- 5
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill/oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.
- 6
Warm the pita bread on the grill or in the oven for a few minutes.
- 7
Assemble the shawarma by placing the sliced chicken in the pita, adding fresh vegetables, and drizzling with tahini sauce.
- 8
Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade shawarma!
