Experience the warm, inviting flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine with Samoon, a soft, slightly sweet bread sprinkled with sesame seeds. Perfect for sharing at family gatherings or enjoying with your favorite dips.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
In another bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and the vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- 4
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions, shaping each into a round loaf.
- 5
Place the shaped loaves on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
- 6
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
- 7
Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Samoon with honey or jam.
