Warm, fluffy roti made from whole wheat flour offers a wholesome taste of Indian cuisine. Perfect for weeknight dinners, serve it alongside your favorite curry or simply with a drizzle of ghee for a comforting treat.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
- 2
Gradually add water, kneading the mixture to form a smooth and soft dough.
- 3
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- 4
Divide the rested dough into equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).
- 5
Roll each ball into a flat, thin circle using a rolling pin and a little dry flour to prevent sticking.
- 6
Heat a tawa (griddle) or a non-stick pan over medium heat. Place the rolled roti on the hot surface.
- 7
Cook the roti for about 30 seconds or until small bubbles form, then flip it over and cook for another 30 seconds.
- 8
Press lightly with a spatula to help puff the roti. Remove from heat and keep warm until serving.
