Experience the joy of homemade pita bread, warm and fluffy, perfect for scooping up your favorite dips or stuffing with savory fillings. Ideal for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Method
- 1
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Stir the mixture until it forms a dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat up.
- 6
Divide the risen dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.
- 7
Carefully place the discs on the preheated baking sheet or pizza stone. Bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until puffy and lightly golden.
- 8
Remove the pitas from the oven and cover with a clean cloth to keep warm. Serve immediately or let cool and store for later.
