Indulge in a South African classic with this creamy Milk Tart, featuring a velvety custard filling infused with vanilla and a hint of cinnamon, all nestled in a buttery crust. Perfect for dessert at family gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, softened butter, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Mix until crumbly.

  3. 3

Add the beaten egg to the mixture and combine until it forms a dough. Press the dough into a greased tart dish.

  4. 4

In a saucepan, whisk together the milk, cornstarch, 1/2 cup sugar, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.

  5. 5

Pour the thickened milk mixture into the prepared crust and smooth the top with a spatula.

  6. 6

Sprinkle the top with ground cinnamon and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until just set.

  7. 7

Allow the milk tart to cool before serving. Slice and enjoy!
