Experience the sweet delight of Maple Taffy on Snow, a classic Canadian treat that combines rich maple syrup drizzled over fresh snow. Perfect for winter gatherings or a fun family dessert!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • clean fresh snow or crushed ice

Method

  1. 1

Pack clean snow firmly into a tray and place outside or in the freezer to keep cold. If using ice, crush it finely and freeze until very cold.

  2. 2

Pour maple syrup into a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Let it boil steadily for about 8 to 10 minutes until it reaches the soft-ball stage (around 115°C). It should thicken slightly but still pour.

  3. 3

Drip a little syrup into cold water. It should form a soft, pliable thread, not dissolve.

  4. 4

Pour thin lines of hot syrup onto the packed snow. Wait a few seconds, then roll the syrup onto sticks using a fork.

  5. 5

Enjoy while chewy and warm. This is a hands-on, sticky, happy mess.

Notes

Use only pure maple syrup for the correct texture and flavour. Don't overboil or it will turn brittle. Traditionally served at sugar shacks with hot chocolate or coffee.
