Indulge in the warm, comforting flavors of Malva Pudding, a South African classic that combines sweet apricot jam and buttery richness. Perfect for a cozy dessert after a family dinner or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon apricot jam
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup cream
Method
- 1
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.
- 2
In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, and apricot jam. Mix well until smooth.
- 3
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and blend thoroughly.
- 4
In a separate bowl, mix the flour and baking soda together. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Stir until well combined.
- 5
Pour the batter into the greased baking dish and bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
- 6
While the pudding is baking, prepare a sauce by mixing equal parts of sugar and cream in a saucepan, heating until the sugar dissolves.
- 7
Once the pudding is baked, remove it from the oven and pour the warm cream sauce over the top. Allow it to soak in for a few minutes before serving.
- 8
Serve warm with additional cream, if desired.
