Experience the vibrant flavors of the Middle East with this aromatic Machboos, featuring tender chicken, fragrant basmati rice, and a blend of spices. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a festive gathering with loved ones.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500 grams chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
Method
- 1
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- 3
Add the chicken pieces to the pot and cook until they are browned on all sides.
- 4
Stir in the ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric powder, and salt, mixing well to coat the chicken.
- 5
Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
- 6
Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside. Add the soaked rice to the pot, stir well, and place the chicken back on top.
- 7
Cover the pot and cook on low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the liquid.
- 8
Fluff the rice with a fork, serve hot, and enjoy your delicious Machboos!
