Indulge in the sweet, nutty layers of Knafeh, a beloved Middle Eastern dessert made with crispy kataifi pastry, creamy ricotta, and a hint of rose water. Perfect for special occasions or a delightful finish to a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • 250 grams kataifi pastry
  • 200 grams unsalted butter
  • 500 grams ricotta cheese
  • 100 grams sugar
  • 200 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 50 grams pistachios

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with the kataifi pastry until evenly coated.

  3. 3

Grease a round baking dish with some butter and layer half of the kataifi mixture at the bottom.

  4. 4

Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the kataifi layer, then top with the remaining kataifi mixture.

  5. 5

Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 6

While the knafeh is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then add rose water and simmer for 10 minutes.

  7. 7

Once the knafeh is done, remove from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over it. Let it sit for a few minutes.

  8. 8

Garnish with chopped pistachios before serving warm.
