Experience the heartwarming flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine with this hearty harees, a comforting blend of tender lamb, wholesome barley, and aromatic spices. Ideal for cozy family dinners or festive gatherings.

- 1 cup whole wheat barley
- 1 kg lamb or chicken
- 6 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp ghee or clarified butter
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp sliced almonds
Method

In a large pot, combine the soaked barley, lamb or chicken, and water.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for about 2-3 hours until the meat is tender.

Remove the meat, and let it cool slightly. Shred the meat into smaller pieces.

Use an immersion blender or a traditional hand grinder to blend the barley and cooking liquid until it reaches a smooth, porridge-like consistency.

Add the shredded meat back into the barley mixture, season with salt, black pepper, and cumin. Stir well and cook for another 30 minutes.

Serve hot, drizzled with ghee or clarified butter, and garnish with sliced almonds.
