Indulge in the delicate sweetness of Ghorayeba, a traditional Middle Eastern cookie made with ghee and perfumed with rose water. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy afternoon treat with tea.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup ghee
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon rose water
  • 1/4 cup whole almonds
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Method

  1. 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ghee and powdered sugar. Mix until well blended and creamy.

  3. 3

Add the rose water (if using) and mix well.

  4. 4

Gradually add the sifted all-purpose flour and baking powder to the mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.

  5. 5

Shape the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them evenly.

  6. 6

Press a whole almond onto the top of each ball for garnish.

  7. 7

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they turn lightly golden.

  8. 8

Remove from the oven and let them cool completely before serving.

Making Ghorayeba for the first time was a delightful experience. I was a bit unsure at first, but the cookies turned out wonderfully flaky and sweet, boosting my confidence in baking.

Making Ghorayeba for the first time was surprisingly easy, and I felt a wave of confidence as I mixed the ingredients. They turned out deliciously soft and crumbly, just like I hoped they would.
