Savor the tradition with homemade Gefilte Fish, a delightful blend of white fish, onions, and spices, perfect for Passover or any festive gathering. Serve chilled with horseradish for a truly memorable dish.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 grams white fish fillets (such as pike or whitefish)
- 1 medium onion
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup matzo meal
- 4 cups fish stock or water
Method
- 1
In a food processor, combine the white fish fillets and onion, and blend until finely ground.
- 2
In a large mixing bowl, add the ground fish mixture, beaten eggs, sugar, salt, black pepper, and matzo meal. Mix well until combined.
- 3
Wet your hands and form the fish mixture into oval patties, about the size of a small egg.
- 4
In a large pot, bring the fish stock or water to a simmer. Carefully drop the gefilte fish patties into the simmering liquid.
- 5
Cover the pot and let them simmer for about 30 minutes until fully cooked.
- 6
Once cooked, carefully remove the gefilte fish from the pot and let them cool before serving.
- 7
Serve chilled or at room temperature with horseradish on the side if desired.
