Indulge in the classic British comfort of fish and chips, featuring crispy battered fish paired with golden, fluffy fries. Perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun weekend treat with friends!

Ingredients

  • 500 grams white fish fillets (cod or haddock)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup ice-cold sparkling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 large potatoes
  • 2 liters vegetable oil
  • to taste salt
  • to taste vinegar

Method

  1. 1

Peel and cut the potatoes into thick strips. Soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess starch.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually whisk in the ice-cold sparkling water until you have a smooth batter.

  3. 3

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 180°C (350°F).

  4. 4

Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a towel. Fry the chips in the hot oil until they are golden and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

Dust the fish fillets lightly in flour, then dip them into the batter. Carefully place them into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

Remove the fried fish and chips from the oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

  7. 7

Serve the fish and chips hot, with vinegar on the side for drizzling.
