Indulge in the sweet layers of baklava, a classic Mediterranean dessert filled with crunchy walnuts and pistachios, drizzled with honey syrup. Perfect for special occasions or a cozy evening treat with friends and family.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup walnuts
- 1 cup pistachios
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Method
- 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 2
In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts and pistachios. Set aside.
- 3
Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- 4
Spread half of the nut mixture over the phyllo layers. Add 4 more layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- 5
Spread the remaining nut mixture and top with 8 more layers of phyllo, again brushing with butter.
- 6
Cut the baklava into diamond shapes with a sharp knife before baking.
- 7
Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- 8
While baking, combine sugar, water, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
- 9
Pour the syrup over the baklava once it is out of the oven. Let it cool completely before serving.
