Indulge in the comforting taste of Zwetschkenknödel, a delightful Austrian dish where tender potato dumplings cradle sweet plums, finished with a sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special dessert treat.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 500 g potatoes
- 150 g flour
- 1 pinch salt
- 8 pieces plums
- 50 g butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Method
- 1
Peel and boil the potatoes until tender. Drain and let them cool slightly.
- 2
Mash the cooled potatoes until smooth and combine with flour and a pinch of salt to form a dough.
- 3
Take a piece of dough and flatten it in your palm. Place a half plum in the center and wrap the dough around it to form a ball.
- 4
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and gently drop the dumplings in. Cook until they float to the surface, about 5-7 minutes.
- 5
In a skillet, melt the butter and allow it to brown slightly. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and transfer them to the skillet.
- 6
Fry the dumplings in the butter until golden brown on all sides. Serve warm, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon if desired.
