Experience the warm embrace of Middle Eastern flavors with Tannour Bread, a soft, aromatic flatbread infused with za'atar. Perfect for sharing at family gatherings or enjoying with your favorite dips on a cozy evening.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon za'atar spice

Method

  1. 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm water and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

Add the olive oil, salt, and all-purpose flour gradually, mixing until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

Divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into balls. Flatten each ball into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. 5

Preheat the tannour or oven to a high temperature (around 450°F or 230°C).

  6. 6

Place the discs onto the hot surface of the tannour or a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.

  7. 7

Remove from the oven and brush with olive oil and sprinkle za'atar spice if desired.

  8. 8

Serve warm with your favorite dips or alongside stews.
