Warm up your weeknight with these hearty stuffed cabbage rolls, filled with savory ground beef and fluffy rice, all smothered in rich tomato sauce. A comforting dish that brings family together around the table.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 large cabbage
- 500 grams ground beef
- 200 grams rice
- 1 medium onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 500 ml tomato sauce
Method
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2-3 minutes until pliable. Remove and set aside.
- 2
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
- 3
Take a cabbage leaf, place a spoonful of the meat mixture at the base, and roll tightly, tucking in the sides to secure the filling. Repeat until all mixture is used.
- 4
In a large pot, arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down. Pour tomato sauce over the rolls and add enough water to cover them halfway.
- 5
Cover the pot and simmer on low heat for about 60-70 minutes, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
- 6
Once cooked, remove from heat and let sit for a few minutes before serving.
- 7
Serve hot, drizzled with additional tomato sauce if desired.
