Experience the rich flavors of Majboos, a traditional Arabian dish featuring tender chicken and fragrant basmati rice, infused with a unique spice blend. Ideal for a cozy family dinner or a festive gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon Majboos spice mix
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Method
- 1
In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onion until golden brown.
- 2
Add the minced garlic and chicken pieces to the pot. Cook until the chicken is browned on all sides.
- 3
Sprinkle the Majboos spice mix over the chicken and stir well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the spices to combine with the chicken.
- 4
Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
- 5
Remove the chicken and set aside. Strain the broth into a separate pot, measuring out 4 cups.
- 6
Add the basmati rice to the strained broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender.
- 7
While the rice is cooking, grill or pan-fry the chicken pieces until they are slightly crispy on the outside.
- 8
Serve the rice on a large platter, topped with the grilled chicken. Garnish with fried onions or fresh herbs, if desired.
