Indulge in a creamy, comforting bowl of macaroni and cheese, enriched with crispy bacon and a hint of onion. This American classic is perfect for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun gathering with friends.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 250 g macaroni
- 1 onion
- 200 g bacon
- 300 g cheese
- 750 ml milk
- 6 eggs
- 1 tomato
- salt
- pepper
Method
- 1
Cook the macaroni in boiling salted water until al dente. Rinse under a cold tap and set aside in your colander or sieve.
- 2
Fry the chopped onion and bacon together, set aside.
- 3
Beat the eggs and milk together and season lightly.
- 4
Mix the macaroni, bacon, and onion together.
- 5
To assemble: using a well-greased oven dish, layer the ingredients: cheese, macaroni mix, tomato. Repeat, making sure there is enough cheese for the top.
- 6
Pour the egg/milk custard over the top and place the dish in a pan of hot water.
- 7
Bake at 180°C in the oven, middle shelf for about 30 minutes, or until set.
- 8
Let your dish stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Optional: Fry mushrooms with the bacon, omit the bacon, use 1/2 tin of tuna, or use 3 cheeses: feta, cheddar & cream cheese.
