Indulge in the sweet, golden goodness of Luqaimat, traditional Middle Eastern dough balls drizzled with rich date syrup. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy evening treat, these delightful bites are sure to impress.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup date syrup or honey

Method

  1. 1

In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, sugar, yeast, and salt together.

  2. 2

Gradually add warm water to the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a smooth batter.

  3. 3

Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes, allowing the batter to rise.

  4. 4

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat.

  5. 5

Once the oil is hot, use a spoon to drop small amounts of the batter into the oil, frying until they are golden brown on all sides.

  6. 6

Remove the fried Luqaimat from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

Serve warm drizzled with date syrup or honey.

I loved how the luqaimat turned out perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.
