Experience the heartwarming flavors of Eastern European cuisine with Kholodets, a savory jellied meat dish made from tender pork knuckle simmered with aromatic spices. Perfect for festive gatherings or a cozy family dinner.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 kg pork meat (preferably pork knuckle or trotters)
- 2 liters water
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 pcs bay leaves
- 5 pcs peppercorns
- 1 cup carrots (optional)
Method
- 1
Clean the pork meat thoroughly and place it in a large pot.
- 2
Add 2 liters of water to the pot, ensuring the meat is fully submerged.
- 3
Bring the water to a boil over medium heat. Skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
- 4
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add salt, bay leaves, and peppercorns.
- 5
Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 6 hours, until the meat is tender and the broth is rich.
- 6
Remove the meat from the pot and strain the broth. If using, add chopped carrots to the broth.
- 7
Place the meat in a mold or dish, pour the broth over it, and let it cool to room temperature.
- 8
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set. Serve chilled, cut into pieces.
