Savor the crispy, golden perfection of classic Fish and Chips, featuring tender white fish in a light beer batter paired with fluffy homemade fries. Ideal for a cozy weeknight dinner or a fun weekend treat.
IngredientsWhat you need
- -16 °C white fish (such as cod or haddock)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 cup cold beer or sparkling water
- 4 large potatoes
- to taste salt
- to taste vinegar
Method
- 1
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick chips. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.
- 2
Heat oil in a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot to 180°C (350°F).
- 3
Fry the chips in batches for about 5-6 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, then season with salt.
- 4
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Gradually whisk in the cold beer or sparkling water until smooth.
- 5
Dip the fish fillets into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Carefully place them into the hot oil and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until the batter is golden and the fish is cooked through.
- 6
Remove the fish from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with the chips and a sprinkle of vinegar.
