Indulge in the delightful fusion of rich dark chocolate and zesty orange in these melt-in-your-mouth shortbread cookies. Perfect for an afternoon treat or a festive gathering, they bring warmth and joy to any occasion.

1

Shortbread

What you need

  • 150 g unsalted butter
  • 200 g plain flour
  • 50 g golden caster sugar
  • 1 orange

Method

  1. 1

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F. Grease a 20cm square baking tin and line with greaseproof paper.

  2. 2

In a bowl, mix together the butter, flour, and sugar.

  3. 3

Grate the orange zest and rub it into the mixture between your thumbs and fingertips.

  4. 4

Squash and pat into dough - don't knead it.

  5. 5

Press into the lined tin in a 1cm-thick layer. Prick all over with a fork, then bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.

  6. 6

Remove, sprinkle over a little extra sugar while it's still warm, then leave to cool.

2

Chocolate Topping

What you need

  • 50 g dark chocolate

  2. 2

Cut the shortbread into 12 finger portions, then transfer to a wire cooling rack.

  3. 3

Drizzle with the chocolate, then finely grate over the remaining orange zest.
