Savor the crispy, golden Chiko Roll, a beloved Australian street food filled with tender meat, vibrant carrots, and crunchy cabbage. Perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a fun snack at your next gathering.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup grated carrot
- 1 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 cup cooked meat (chicken or beef)
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 cups oil (for frying)
Method
- 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour and water to form a smooth dough. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- 2
In another bowl, mix together the grated carrot, shredded cabbage, cooked meat, soy sauce, and pepper until well combined.
- 3
Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a flat oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- 4
Place a generous amount of the filling mixture in the center of each rolled-out dough oval.
- 5
Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges by pressing them together tightly.
- 6
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the rolls in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- 7
Remove the Chiko Rolls from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- 8
Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
