Savor the warm, aromatic flavors of Manakish, a traditional Middle Eastern flatbread topped with fragrant za'atar and olive oil. Ideal for a cozy brunch or a delightful snack any time of day.
IngredientsWhat you need
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/2 cup za'atar spice mix
- 1/4 cup water
Method
- 1
In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 2-3 minutes until smooth. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
- 4
While resting, mix za'atar with 1/4 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to create a paste.
- 5
Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.
- 6
Spread the za'atar mixture evenly on top of each dough circle and place them in the preheated skillet.
- 7
Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
- 8
Remove from skillet and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
